Mavinkai Mensu Padhartha (Ripe Mango curry)



Mavinkai means mango, menasu means chilli and padhartha means curry in kanada. Mavinkai menasu Padhartha is famous mangalorean cuisine.  Once mango season starts, you find this dish in every function. This recipe gives a different twist to the sweet juicy mangoes.

  Ingredients 

 15 Mangoes
 2 tsp Oil
 4-5     Garlic flakes
 ½ sp Mustard
 2tsp Jaggery
  Salt to taste
Curry leaves few





   For Masala

7         Kashmiri chilli
7        Dried Red chilli
2tbsp Coriander
½ tsp Cumin
¼tbsp Fenugreek

Dry roast all the masala ingredients and grind to smooth paste.

Peel the skin of mangoes, add few peeled skin to mangoes and keep aside.

Add jaggery, ground masala to mango, and mix well

 Add water to gravy consistency.

Cook masala ,added mangoes on medium flame by closing led. Once it starts boiling cook on low flame for few minutes.

Heat oil in kadai adds mustard, crushed garlic and curry leaves add this seasoning to mango and serve hot with rice.

Note:-
 If mangoes are sour, add jaggery.
In this recipe, I have used two types of dried red chillies i.e.kashmiri chilli and red chilli
Kashmiri chilli gives nice red colour to the curry and ordinary red chilli for spiciness

You can use any one variety of dried red chilli too.
